Nitrogen and Oxygen can permeate rubber, however Nitrogen might take 6 months to lose 2 psi where air would take just a month. Correct psi in the tires extend the life of your tires and will give you better mpg. No more false Tire Sensor Readings.

Air contains 78.1% Nitrogen, 20.9% Oxygen and 1% Other Gases. Moisture and Oxygen corrode aluminum and steel wheels. There is also a chemical reaction between Oxygen and rubber that will cause another type of corrosion.

Oxidation happens when oxygen react with things. When oxidation is extremely rapid, this process is called “burning”. This is the reason that aircraft and highway tires use nitrogen. These tires run so hot that they can catch on fire. Nitrogen filled tires don’t add fuel to the flames, and helps prevent slower forms of oxidation.
